Shikoku Island
Shikoku Island is one of Japan's four main islands, located to the south of the country's main island, Honshu. It is known for its mountainous terrain, beautiful landscapes, and rural charm. Shikoku is famous for the Shikoku Pilgrimage, a 1,200-kilometer route connecting 88 sacred temples associated with the Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi. The island’s economy is primarily based on agriculture, fishing, and tourism. Notable cities include Takamatsu and Matsuyama, which is home to Japan's oldest hot spring, Dogo Onsen. Shikoku offers a unique blend of culture, nature, and history distinct from Japan's more urbanized areas.
