Summorum Pontificum
Summorum Pontificum is a document issued by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007 that allows wider use of the traditional Latin Mass, also known as the Tridentine Mass. This decision was aimed at permitting Catholics who prefer the older liturgy, which was used before the reforms of the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s, to celebrate and participate in it more freely. The Pope intended to foster reconciliation within the Church by acknowledging diverse liturgical preferences and promoting unity among Catholics who may feel attached to this traditional form of worship.
