Sulfur Cycle
The sulfur cycle is the naturalprocess by which sulfur moves through the Earth’s atmosphere, soil, water, and living organisms. Sulfur exists in various forms, like sulfate in water and hydrogen sulfide in the air. Plants absorb sulfate, which is then passed to animals when they eat the plants. Decomposers break down dead organisms, returning sulfur to the soil and atmosphere. Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, also release sulfur, contributing to pollution and acid rain. This cycle is essential for life, playing a key role in protein synthesis and various biochemical processes.
