SPRINT Study
The SPRINT Study (Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial) was a major research trial aimed at understanding the effects of lowering blood pressure in older adults. Conducted by the National Institutes of Health, it examined whether reducing systolic blood pressure to below 120 mmHg, compared to the standard target of 140 mmHg, could prevent heart-related issues and improve overall health. The study found that the lower target significantly reduced the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure, leading to changes in guidelines for treating high blood pressure in older patients to promote better outcomes.
