Spontaneous Breathing Trials

Spontaneous Breathing Trials (SBTs) are tests conducted in a hospital, primarily for patients on mechanical ventilation. During an SBT, healthcare providers temporarily remove the patient's reliance on the ventilator, allowing them to breathe on their own for a set period. This trial helps assess whether the patient can safely breathe independently, indicating their readiness to be taken off the ventilator. If the patient tolerates the trial well, it suggests they may be able to breathe without assistance, which is crucial for their recovery and return to normal breathing.
