Positive End-Expiratory Pressure (PEEP)
Positive End-Expiratory Pressure (PEEP) is a medical setting used in ventilators to keep the lungs slightly inflated at the end of each breath. By maintaining a small amount of pressure, PEEP helps prevent the air sacs in the lungs from collapsing, which improves oxygen exchange and breathing efficiency. It's especially helpful for patients with lung conditions like pneumonia or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). PEEP allows better oxygen intake without increasing the risk of lung damage from larger breaths, supporting effective and safer ventilation.
