Spinal Tuberculosis

Spinal tuberculosis, also known as Pott's disease, is an infection of the spine caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which primarily affects the lungs. In this condition, the bacteria spread to the vertebrae, leading to inflammation, pain, and potentially the collapse of spinal bones. Symptoms include back pain, fever, weight loss, and neurological problems if the spinal cord is compressed. It is a serious condition that requires early diagnosis and treatment, usually involving prolonged antibiotic therapy. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or stabilize the spine.
