The sperm whale is the largest tooth whale, known for its distinct squared head and long, streamlined body. Males can grow up to 20.5 meters (67 feet) long, making them the largest toothed predators on Earth. They are deep divers, capable of reaching depths of over 2,000 meters (6,600 feet) to hunt for squid and fish. Sperm whales are social animals, often found in groups called pods. They communicate using a series of clicks and sounds. Their name comes from the waxy substance found in their heads, called spermaceti, which was once highly valued by whalers.
