Solemn League and Covenant
The Solemn League and Covenant was an agreement made in 1643 during the English Civil War, primarily between the Scottish Covenanters and the English Parliament. It aimed to unite both sides in a common religious cause—preserving and promoting Presbyterianism (a form of Protestant church governance) across England, Scotland, and Ireland. In return, Scotland agreed to send military support to the Parliament's side in the war against King Charles I. The covenant reflected a shared desire to uphold Protestant faith and reform church practices, shaping political and religious alliances during a tumultuous period.
