Sixth Schedule
The Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution provides special autonomy to certain tribal areas in the northeastern states. It allows for the creation of Autonomous District Councils, which can make decisions on land use, resources, and cultural preservation. This schedule aims to protect the rights of tribal communities, ensuring they have control over their land and governance. It recognizes their unique identity and heritage, allowing for self-management while being part of the Indian Union. The Sixth Schedule applies primarily to the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura.
