SIGTARP (Special Inspector General for TARP)
The Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP) is an independent office established to oversee and ensure accountability in the use of funds from the TARP program, which was created during the 2008 financial crisis. SIGTARP investigates how TARP funds are used, identifies waste and fraud, and provides regular reports to Congress. Its mission is to protect taxpayers' interests by ensuring that financial institutions receiving assistance operate transparently and responsibly, thereby promoting trust and accountability in government financial interventions.
