SIGTARP

SIGTARP (Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program) is a government watchdog tasked with overseeing and auditing how the Treasury Department manages the TARP funds allocated during the 2008 financial crisis. Its goal is to ensure transparency, detect fraud, and promote accountability in the use of these taxpayer dollars. By independently monitoring TARP initiatives, SIGTARP helps prevent misuse, reports on progress, and provides recommendations to protect financial stability and public interests during recovery efforts.
