Sergey Korolev

Sergey Korolev was a pioneering Soviet engineer and scientist who led the development of the USSR's space program during the Cold War era. Often called the "Chief Designer," he orchestrated significant milestones such as launching the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, in 1957, and sending the first human, Yuri Gagarin, into space in 1961. His work laid the foundation for modern space exploration, demonstrating innovative engineering and strategic leadership in a competitive international context. Despite initial secrecy around his contributions, Korolev is recognized as a key figure who dramatically advanced humanity’s reach beyond Earth.
