Seismic Reflection Techniques

Seismic reflection techniques are used to explore what lies beneath the Earth's surface. By creating seismic waves—often through explosions or vibrations—scientists send these waves into the ground. When they hit different layers of rock or soil, some waves bounce back, or "reflect." Sensors called geophones capture these reflected waves, helping geologists and engineers build images of underground structures like oil reserves or water aquifers. This method is similar to how bats use echolocation to find objects in their environment, using sound to gather information about unseen layers and materials beneath us.
