sCJD (Sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease)
Sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (sCJD) is a rare and fatal brain disorder caused by abnormal proteins called prions. These prions misfold healthy brain proteins, leading to brain damage and rapid neurological decline. Symptoms include memory loss, personality changes, coordination problems, and visual disturbances. Most cases occur without any known risk factors and typically affect older adults. Unfortunately, sCJD progresses quickly, often leading to severe disability and death within a year of symptoms onset. There is currently no cure or effective treatment, making it a significant area of concern in medical research.
