Ross procedure

The Ross procedure is a type of heart surgery used to treat aortic valve disease, particularly in younger patients. In this operation, the damaged aortic valve is replaced with the patient's own pulmonary valve, which is taken out and placed in the aortic position. Then, a donor valve or artificial valve is used to replace the pulmonary valve. This method has the advantage of using the patient's own tissue, which often grows with them and functions well, reducing the need for blood-thinning medications later. It aims to improve heart function and longevity in those affected by valve disease.
