Rosetta (mission)
The Rosetta mission, launched by the European Space Agency in 2004, aimed to study a comet named 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. After a decade traveling through space, Rosetta arrived at the comet in 2014, becoming the first spacecraft to orbit a comet. It deployed a lander, Philae, which landed on the comet's surface to gather data. The mission provided insights into the comet's composition, structure, and behavior, enhancing our understanding of the origins of water and organic materials on Earth, and the early solar system. Rosetta concluded its mission in 2016 by landing on the comet, concluding a groundbreaking journey.
