Room and Pillar Mining
Room and Pillar mining is a method used to extract minerals from underground deposits. In this process, miners create a series of large chambers or "rooms," while leaving pillars of material to support the mine's roof. This design helps prevent collapses while maximizing the amount of resource extracted. It’s commonly used for coal, gypsum, and potash mining. The technique allows for controlled removal of material, balancing productivity and safety, but it can also lead to subsidence if pillars are not sufficient or if they are mined later on.
