Bureau of Mines
The Bureau of Mines was a part of the U.S. Department of the Interior, established in 1910, focused on mining safety, regulation, and research. Its mission was to promote safe mining practices, improve mineral resource management, and support the mining industry through research and technology. The Bureau offered guidance on environmental issues related to mining and worked to minimize the industry’s impact on natural resources. Although it was dissolved in 1996, its functions were largely transferred to the U.S. Geological Survey and other agencies, helping to shape modern mining practices and policies.
