Rollo of Normandy

Rollo of Normandy was a Viking leader who became the first ruler of Normandy, a region in northern France. In the early 10th century, he and his followers settled in this area after negotiating with the King of France, Charles the Simple. In exchange for lands and protection against other raiders, Rollo converted to Christianity and pledged loyalty to the French crown. His descendants played a significant role in European history, eventually including William the Conqueror, who invaded England in 1066. Rollo's legacy is a key part of the Viking influence in medieval Europe.
