Robert McClure (explorer)

Robert McClure was a 19th-century British explorer known for his significant contributions to Arctic exploration. He is best remembered for his 1850-1854 expedition aboard the HMS Investigator, which aimed to find the Northwest Passage—a sea route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. McClure and his crew faced extreme conditions, including ice entrapment. Remarkably, he became the first to navigate the passage, reporting its route after enduring hardships. His explorations helped advance the understanding of the Arctic region, and he was later knighted for his achievements in exploration and his resilience in the face of adversity.
