Respiratory Mechanics

Respiratory mechanics refers to how the lungs and airways work together to facilitate breathing. When we inhale, the diaphragm and chest muscles contract, expanding the chest cavity and creating a vacuum that pulls air into the lungs. When we exhale, these muscles relax, and the elastic properties of the lungs help push air out. Factors like airway resistance and lung compliance (how easily the lungs can expand) affect breathing efficiency. Proper respiratory mechanics are crucial for effective gas exchange, ensuring our bodies receive oxygen and remove carbon dioxide.
