Respirable Crystalline Silica
Respirable crystalline silica refers to tiny crystalline particles of silica that are small enough to be inhaled into the lungs. Silica is a natural mineral found in sand, stone, and clay. When materials containing silica are cut, drilled, or crushed, these fine particles can become airborne. Prolonged exposure can lead to serious health issues, including silicosis, a lung disease, and increased risks of lung cancer and other respiratory problems. Due to these risks, many workplaces implement safety measures to protect workers from inhaling respirable crystalline silica.
