Relief Sculpture
Relief sculpture is a type of artwork that projects from a flat background, creating a three-dimensional effect. Unlike free-standing sculptures, reliefs are attached to a surface, such as a wall or a panel. They can be classified as low relief (bas-relief), where figures barely stand out from the background, or high relief, which features more pronounced projections. Relief sculptures are often used to tell stories or represent scenes, commonly found in historical buildings, monuments, and various forms of artistic expression throughout cultures. They add depth and texture, enhancing the visual experience.
