Refugee Status
Refugee status is a legal designation for individuals who have fled their home countries due to fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. This status allows them to seek protection and, often, the right to live in another country. Refugees may face threats of violence or violence itself if they return home. International laws, such as the 1951 Refugee Convention, establish the rights of refugees and the responsibilities of nations to protect them from danger and provide a safe haven.
