Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), is a chronic pain condition typically affecting an arm or leg after an injury. It causes severe pain, swelling, and changes in skin color and temperature in the affected area. The autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary bodily functions, becomes overactive and misinterprets signals, leading to discomfort and sensitivity. Treatment may include physical therapy, pain management, and medication. The exact cause is not well understood, and symptoms can vary significantly among individuals. Early diagnosis and intervention can improve outcomes.
