Quebec sovereignty referendum

The Quebec sovereignty referendums were votes held in Canada, specifically in the province of Quebec, to decide whether Quebec should become an independent country. The first referendum occurred in 1980, where around 60% voted against sovereignty. The second, in 1995, was much closer, with about 50.5% voting against independence and 49.5% in favor. These referendums highlighted the ongoing debate about Quebec's identity, cultural autonomy, and political status within Canada, reflecting the desires of some Quebecois to separate from Canada and form their own nation.
