Quantum Key Distribution

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a secure method for exchanging cryptographic keys using the principles of quantum mechanics. It allows two parties to create a shared, secret key that can be used for encrypting messages. The key feature of QKD is that any attempt to eavesdrop on the communication will disturb the quantum states being transmitted, alerting the parties involved. This ensures that if the key is intercepted, it can be discarded and a new key can be generated, providing a high level of security that classical methods cannot guarantee.
