Pulseless electrical activity (PEA)
Pulseless Electrical Activity (PEA) is a medical condition where the heart shows electrical activity on an ECG (electrocardiogram) but fails to contract effectively, resulting in no pulse and no blood flow. This can occur during cardiac emergencies, indicating severe underlying issues such as trauma, lack of oxygen, or fluid loss. Despite the heart's electrical signals, the heart is not functioning properly, meaning the person is unconscious and unresponsive. Immediate medical intervention is required to identify and treat the underlying cause to restore proper heart function and circulation.
