Proto-Sinaitic script

Proto-Sinaitic script is an ancient writing system believed to have emerged around the 19th century BCE in the Sinai Peninsula. It represents one of the earliest forms of alphabetic writing and is thought to have evolved from Egyptian hieroglyphs. The script was used by Semitic-speaking people and laid the groundwork for several later alphabets, including Phoenician and Hebrew. Proto-Sinaitic consists of simple signs that correspond to sounds, making it more efficient than previous systems that relied heavily on symbols representing entire words. Its discovery has provided crucial insights into the development of written language in the ancient world.
