Proto-Canaanite script
Proto-Canaanite script is an ancient writing system that emerged around 1800 BCE in the region known today as the Levant. It is one of the earliest alphabets, containing symbols representing consonant sounds, which was a shift from previous pictographic writing systems. Proto-Canaanite is considered a precursor to several later alphabets, including Phoenician and Hebrew. This script reflects the language and culture of the Canaanite people and was used mainly for administrative and trade purposes, helping to lay the groundwork for the development of alphabetic writing systems in Western civilization.
