Logographic writing systems
Logographic writing systems use symbols to represent words or meaningful parts of words, rather than individual sounds like in alphabetic systems. Each symbol, or logogram, corresponds to a specific idea or object, making it possible to convey complex concepts efficiently. An example is Chinese, where characters represent words or phrases. Unlike alphabets that rely on letters to form sounds, logographic scripts can convey meaning directly, which can be useful across different dialects of the same language. However, they often require extensive memorization, as the number of symbols can be quite large.
