Progressive Sclerosing Poliodystrophy
Progressive Sclerosing Poliodystrophy, also known as Globoid Cell Leukodystrophy or Krabbe disease, is a rare, genetic neurological disorder that affects the nervous system. It is caused by a deficiency in an enzyme needed to break down a specific type of fat in the body. This leads to the buildup of toxic substances that damage brain and nerve cells, causing progressive loss of skills, muscle control, and coordination. Symptoms may include weakness, stiffness, and irritability, typically appearing in infancy. The disease worsens over time and significantly impacts quality of life due to its severe nature.
