Prime number

A prime number is a natural number greater than 1 that can only be divided by 1 and itself without leaving a remainder. In other words, it has exactly two distinct positive divisors. For example, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 11 are prime numbers, while 4, 6, and 8 are not because they can be divided by numbers other than 1 and themselves. Primes are fundamental in mathematics, particularly in number theory, because they can be thought of as the building blocks for all other natural numbers through multiplication.
