Preponderance of Evidence

Preponderance of evidence is a legal standard used in civil cases to determine the outcome. It means that one side's evidence is more convincing and likely true than the other side's. Essentially, if the evidence shows that something is more than 50% likely to be true, then the court will favor that side. It contrasts with "beyond a reasonable doubt," which is a higher standard used in criminal cases. In simpler terms, if you believe one side's case is more believable than the other, then that side has met the preponderance of evidence standard.
