Prematurity
Prematurity refers to the condition of a baby being born before 37 weeks of pregnancy have been completed. A full-term pregnancy typically lasts around 40 weeks. Premature babies, often called preemies, can face various health challenges because their bodies and organs may not be fully developed. This can lead to issues with breathing, feeding, and maintaining body temperature. The earlier a baby is born, the higher the risk of complications. With advances in medical care, many premature infants survive and thrive, but they may require special attention and support in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
