Plasmonics

Plasmonics is a branch of study that focuses on the interaction between light and the free electrons in metals. When light hits a metal surface, it can excite these electrons, creating collective oscillations called surface plasmons. In nonlinear optics, this interaction becomes even more interesting because it can lead to unusual behaviors, such as the generation of new frequencies of light. This combination allows for advanced applications in sensors, imaging, and information technology, harnessing light in innovative ways that enhance performance beyond traditional optics.
