Plan de Iguala
The Plan de Iguala, declared in 1821, was a revolutionary plan by Mexican leaders aiming for independence from Spain. It promoted three main ideas: Mexican sovereignty, equality between Spaniards and Mexicans, and the Catholic Church’s role in society. The plan called for unity among different regions and social classes to achieve independence peacefully. It laid the foundation for Mexico’s independence movement, emphasizing national unity and religious stability, and ultimately led to Mexico becoming an independent nation.
