Petrograd
Petrograd was the name of Russia’s capital city from 1914 to 1924, originally known as Saint Petersburg. Located on the Baltic Sea, it was a major cultural and political center. The city played a key role in the Russian Revolution of 1917, which led to the overthrow of the monarchy and the rise of the Soviet Union. Its name was changed to Petrograd during World War I to sound more Russian, and later to Leningrad in 1924 in honor of Vladimir Lenin. Today, it is known as Saint Petersburg, renowned for its historic architecture, cultural heritage, and vibrant arts scene.
