Passos Coelho

Passos Coelho is a Portuguese politician who served as Prime Minister of Portugal from 2011 to 2015. Leading the Social Democratic Party, he was known for implementing austerity measures during the European debt crisis, aiming to stabilize the economy and reduce the national deficit. His government faced significant public protest due to these measures, which included cuts to public services and increased taxes. Despite criticisms, Portugal eventually emerged from the crisis and returned to economic growth. After losing the 2015 elections, Passos Coelho stepped back from party leadership and continued his career in politics and public service.
