Parathyroid cells
Parathyroid cells are specialized cells found in the parathyroid glands, which are small glands located near the thyroid in your neck. Their main function is to produce parathyroid hormone (PTH), which regulates calcium levels in the blood. When calcium levels drop, PTH is released to increase calcium by promoting its release from bones, enhancing absorption in the intestines, and reducing loss through the kidneys. Maintaining proper calcium levels is crucial for bone health, muscle function, and nerve signaling. Thus, parathyroid cells play a vital role in keeping our bodies' calcium balance in check.
