Open Theism

Open theism is a theological perspective that argues God grants genuine free will to humans, meaning the future is not fully predetermined. In this view, God is omniscient but knows the future as a range of possibilities rather than certainties. This contrasts with traditional views of predestination, where God has already determined every event. Open theists believe that while God remains providential—actively involved in the world—humans have the capacity to make meaningful choices that can influence outcomes. Thus, God's relationship with creation is dynamic and responsive, allowing for human agency within divine guidance.
