Nucleosome

A nucleosome is a fundamental unit of DNA packaging in our cells. It consists of a segment of DNA wrapped around a group of proteins called histones, forming a spool-like structure. This organization helps condense the long strands of DNA so they can fit inside the cell nucleus. Nucleosomes also play a role in regulating gene activity, as their arrangement can influence which genes are accessible for use.
