Nominal Damages

Nominal damages are a small sum of money awarded by a court to a party whose legal rights have been violated, even if they did not suffer a significant financial loss. This type of compensation acknowledges that a wrong occurred, affirming the right violated, but recognizes that there's no substantial damage to reimburse. For example, if someone breaches a contract, but the affected party didn't lose money or property, the court might award nominal damages to signify that a legal issue was present, upholding the principle of justice.
