Noma

Noma is a severe, often disfiguring disease that primarily affects children, particularly in developing countries. It starts as a sore in the mouth or gums, usually following malnutrition or an untreated infection. If not treated, it can rapidly progress, leading to the destruction of facial tissues, including the cheeks, gums, and lips. The condition is associated with poor hygiene, lack of medical care, and extreme poverty. Treatment typically involves antibiotics, surgical intervention, and nutritional support, but prevention through improved nutrition and healthcare is crucial to reduce its incidence.
