NATO, or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is a military alliance founded in 1949, primarily aimed at collective defense. Its members, currently 31 countries from North America and Europe, agree that an attack on one is an attack on all. This principle of collective security is intended to deter aggression and promote stability. NATO also engages in crisis management, cooperative security, and disaster response. The alliance has evolved to address various global challenges, including terrorism and cyber threats, while fostering political and military collaboration among its diverse member states.
