Multinational Force in East Timor

The Multinational Force in East Timor (INTERFET) was a peacekeeping mission led by Australia, established in 1999 to restore order following a violent crisis after East Timor voted for independence from Indonesia. The mission aimed to protect civilians, ensure humanitarian aid delivery, and establish a secure environment. Approximately 11,000 troops from various countries participated, working to stabilize the region and support the transition to independence. INTERFET played a crucial role in helping East Timor achieve full sovereignty, leading to its official independence in 2002.
