Mohammed Zahir Shah
Mohammed Zahir Shah was the last king of Afghanistan, ruling from 1933 to 1973. He was known for promoting modernization and attempting to create a more democratic government. His reign saw efforts to improve education, infrastructure, and international relations. However, political instability and challenges to his authority led to his eventual exile in 1973 when a coup overthrew him. After years in exile, Zahir Shah returned to Afghanistan in 2002 but did not reclaim the throne. He is often remembered for his attempts at modernization and his symbolically unifying presence in Afghan history. He passed away in 2007.
