Mixtec language

Mixtec is a group of indigenous languages spoken primarily in the Mixteca region of Mexico, encompassing parts of the states of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Puebla. The language family is known for its complex tonal systems, which means that pitch can change the meaning of a word. There are numerous dialects of Mixtec, reflecting the diverse cultures and communities of Mixtec speakers. Mixtec is an important part of the cultural identity for its speakers, and efforts are underway to preserve and revitalize the language, particularly in the face of globalization and language shift towards Spanish.
