Mitochondrial Pathway

The mitochondrial pathway refers to a series of processes in cells that lead to programmed cell death, also known as apoptosis. It involves the mitochondria, which are the powerhouses of the cell, generating energy. When a cell receives signals to die, the mitochondria release certain proteins that activate enzymes called caspases. These caspases then trigger the cell to dismantle itself in a controlled manner, preventing damage to surrounding tissues.
